If you are required to enter and work in confined spaces, then the first step is complete the relevant training course. This must beĀ  nationally recognised training provided by a registered training organisation (RTO).

Some roles and responsibilities will vary, along with the required qualifications to carry these out: some of these include:

General workers entering confined spaces: RIIWHS202D – Enter and work in confined spaces. Additional PPE such as Breathing apparatus may be applied if required: MSMWHS216 – Operate breathing apparatus

Gas tester to ensure a safe atmosphere for workers entering and working: MSMWHS217 – Gas test atmospheres

Permit Issuer to give written authorisation and take direct control of the space – MSMWHS201 – Conduct hazard analysis & MSMPER300 – Issue work permits

Confined space rescue operator to conduct any type of rescue/extrication required in the event of an emergency – Requires various qualifications and experience

Standby operator to ensure the safety of all entrance at all times – Requires various qualifications and experience.
